Are your shipments safe from sanctions risks?

One wrong move with a party, product or country can stop a shipment.

Export controls are like rules that say what goods can move, where they can go and to whom they can be sent.

There are goods that can be used for both civilian and the military like software, electronics and machines. These are called dual-use goods.

In order to be Embargo compliance we need to be following the rules that say we cannot trade with countries, goods or services.

We need to check the people we are dealing with like buyers, suppliers and other parties to make sure they are not on any sanctions lists. This is called party screening.

What should you check before you ship something?

  • Is the product controlled or can it be used for both civilian and the military?

  • Do you need a license to export it?

  • Is the country you are sending it to subject to sanctions or trade limits?

  • Is the buyer, supplier or the person who will use it in the end on a sanctions list?

To be safe you should make sure you classify your goods correctly check all the people involved see how the goods will be used and look at the rules before you ship.

The rules change a lot so just because you checked time does not mean you are okay this time.
